I am an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the Northern Kentucky University.

My research has focused on finding ways in which to improve student learning and to help low-achieving students benefit from interventions that increase their achievement, particularly in mathematics. Identifying student deficiencies in maths topics has been another major area of my research. I am currently in search of methods that learn the most accurate representation of student knowledge and prerequisite skill structures from student's performance data.

I have implemented, with the assistance of other graduate students, an adaptive testing system which we have christened PLACEments. This system, a part of the ASSISTments Ecosystem of Applications, identifies student deficiencies in maths topics and assigns remedial exercises to help students resolve the deficiencies. Additionally, PLACEments is currently being used to identify gaps in student learning in Math and Elementary Computer Programming
